Atlantic Crossing (2 CD Limited Edition)

When Rod Stewart signed to Warner Bros. in 1975, the deal coincided with his move to the States, and his coming into his own as a reigning global superstar. Stewart's debut for the label, ATLANTIC CROSSING, was his sixth solo LP and his first without any of his mates from the Faces, who disbanded in '75. Produced by the legendary Tom Dowd, it made Billboard's Top 10, and charted with the now-classic hits 'Sailing' and 'This Old Heart Of Mine.' A NIGHT ON THE TOWN followed in 1976-Stewart's first platinum release, it delivered the #1 smash 'Tonight's The Night.' Both albums mixed covers and originals split between fast and slow sides, and both were recorded in Muscle Shoals and Los Angeles with session luminaries including the MG's. The pleasure of each title is now doubled with 2-CD COLLECTOR'S EDITIONS, and a wealth of previously unreleased tracks.

User Reviews about Atlantic Crossing (2 CD Limited Edition)

For me this is the best album of Rod Stewart. This is one of those albums that you put to play and just relax knowing that you will have 40 fabulous minutes of joy and pleasure. All the songs are good songs, there's no one that you can say that is a bad song. "This Old Heart of Mine" is my favourite Rod Stewart song for all time and look that Rod has hundreds of songs that can be a favourite for anyone for all time!!! -- The best album!!!!!
I am of the humble opinion that this might have been Rodney's last truly great album. He still was serious about making great music and you can clearly hear it. I remember being heartbroken over the fact that he abandoned the Faces and this solo album would have no Ron Wood or Mickey Waller playing on it. I also remember getting over it quickly once I heard this album originally back in '75.

The deluxe version here gives you more of a great thing. The tunes with the MG's are really terrific. That band could always play and backing Rod seemed to be a natural thing. No star trips here, just great music. The other demos/studio rehearsals are all outstanding in their own right too. I think the version of Sailing found on disc two surpasses the original released version easily in fact. Drift Away is another. There was serious musicianship on this album, and Rodney was clearly inspired by it.

Sometimes deluxe re-issues can be letdowns despite their promises. Not this one. This was done properly from start to finish. The re-mastering is stellar and the bonuses found on the second disc priceless.

Buy this. Don't think twice about doing so either.

-- Sing it Rod
This is not quite as excellent as the Night on the Town 2-disc collector's edition as the bonus tracks are not as unique or interesting, but like Night, it comes in excellent packaging, and features enough decent bonus stuff to recommend "double dipping." Pretty much essential for Rod Stewart fans, and anyone whose every loved this album. -- Classic Rod in new package with mega-bonus tracks
This album was one of the last albums remixed for quadraphonic but never got issued. It would be nice if Warners added the (CD-4) discrete Quad mix to a/the Collectors edition. -- MultiChannel mix would be nice....
